(The Post News)- The Oudtshoorn Crime Prevention Unit launched a high-density operation, resulting in the confiscation of 201 litres of liquor and the arrest of four suspects. The operation, which forms part of the Western Cape’s policing approach, aimed to target unlicensed liquor outlets and drug peddlers in vulnerable communities.
On Friday, 13 September 2024, police operationalised intelligence on illegal activities, conducting a sting operation at a house in Bontebok Avenue, Bridgeton, Oudtshoorn. The seizure of 111 litres of liquor and the arrest of a 34-year-old woman on charges of dealing in liquor without a licence marked the beginning of a successful operation.
Later that day, a search and seizure warrant was executed at a house in Thabo Mbeki Square, Bongulethu, Oudtshoorn, yielding 22 bottles of various beer blends. A 56-year-old man was arrested and charged with dealing in liquor without a licence.
In Dysselsdorp, police responded to a tip-off about illegal activities at a house in Belelie Street, confiscating 12 mandrax tablets, 31 bankies of dagga, and five beer crates. Two occupants, aged 33 and 57, were arrested and face charges of dealing in drugs and liquor without a licence.
In an unrelated matter, a vehicle checkpoint in Beaufort West led to the discovery and confiscation of 100 kilograms of dagga, estimated at R200 000, on a passenger bus en route to Cape Town from Queenstown. The origin of the find is under investigation.
These operations demonstrate the Western Cape police’s commitment to eradicating substance abuse and illicit activities in vulnerable communities. The arrested suspects will appear in the Oudtshoorn Magistrate’s Court once charged.
