Bridging the Gap: Webinar Series Empowers Youth to Drive Biodiversity Conservation
(The Post News)- The South African Youth Biodiversity Network (SAYBN), in partnership with the African Wildlife Foundation and the Global Youth Biodiversity Network, is launching a groundbreaking webinar series to educate youth on global biodiversity targets.
This initiative aims to bridge the knowledge gap surrounding the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KM-GBF) and South Africa’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP).
Starting September 28, the two-fold social media campaign will demystify complex biodiversity concepts and address implementation challenges.
This will enable young South Africans to engage meaningfully with biodiversity conservation. The KM-GBF, adopted in 2022, outlines ambitious global conservation targets for 2030. However, South African youth remain largely unaware of its national implications.
According to SAYBN Chair Keletso Malape, “Many young South Africans are passionate about conservation but lack clear guidance on how global frameworks like the KM-GBF translate into local action.” The webinar series seeks to break down these barriers, providing actionable steps for local engagement and fostering a community of young conservation leaders.
By simplifying complex biodiversity concepts and offering practical solutions, SAYBN and its partners empower South African youth to drive meaningful change in biodiversity conservation. This initiative is crucial, as the lack of accessible, non-technical education on the KM-GBF has hindered effective youth participation.
To join the conversation and register for the webinar series, follow SAYBN’s social media channels. This is an opportunity for young South Africans to take the first step towards a biodiversity-rich future.
