(The Post News)- Schools are supposed to be sanctuaries of learning, where students gain knowledge and grow in a safe environment. However, Lynnwood Ridge Primary School in Pretoria has become a breeding ground for bullying, with learners and teachers alike perpetuating the problem. This toxic atmosphere has forced parents to withdraw their children, seeking refuge in other institutions.
To combat this issue, the Patriotic Alliance and other organizations staged a protest outside the school. The demonstration aimed to confront the entrenched racism and discrimination that has become rampant among learners and teachers. Community leader Felicia April from the Patriotic Alliance condemned the school’s inaction, stating, “There’s a pandemic at this school, and no one is willing to address it. It means the school is condoning this behavior, raising gangsters for tomorrow.”
Anita Topham, a concerned mother, shared her child’s heartbreaking experience. “My child is not okay at all. The school and Department of Education have failed to act. My child now attends therapy after suffering a mental breakdown due to relentless bullying.”
Tshwane Youth League’s Mamelodi Howard Mabena emphasized the urgency of eradicating racism and discrimination. “We can’t tolerate what happened during apartheid. If teachers can’t teach without violence or bias, they must be removed.”
Organizations demand that Lynnwood Ridge Primary implement comprehensive anti-bullying and racism campaigns, accommodating all races. They insist on accountability and immediate action to safeguard students’ well-being.
