Constable Mojalefa Borole lost his life in the line of duty after being shot and killed during a violent confrontation.
(The Post News)- On Sunday, 12 September 2024, one of the police officials in Welkom in the Free State, Mojalefa Borole (30) was shot and killed in the line of duty during a violent confrontation.
The incident happened in the Phahameng township area where the police officials were responding to the complaint. “During the incident, constable Borole sustained fatal injuries despite efforts to rescue his life by the Emergency Medical Services (EMS), he was tragically pronounced dead at the scene,” confirmed the provincial police spokesperson, Captain Loraine Earl.
Capt Earl says responding to this incident, backup, including members from the Public Order Police unit of Welkom arrived, and the three suspects locked themselves in the house and locked all doors from inside. Police tactically entered the house and subsequently, three men were fatally wounded, however.
The acting provincial Commissioner of the police in the Free State, Maj. Gen Solly Lesia expressed her heartfelt condolences on behalf of the South African Police Services (SAPS). He says, “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the fallen member during this difficult time. Constable Borole’s sacrifice will not be forgotten.”
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has been notified and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the suspects are currently underway. The investigations into the death of three suspects will be handed further by IPID.
Meanwhile, it is alleged on Sunday, 22 September 2024, the bus driver, Lebohang Ntuli (39) was fatally shot ans killed by the suspect(s) in Botshabelo, Section G in the Free State. The police are requesting the community’s assistance in tracing the suspects.
Sergeant Sina Mpakane, the police provincial spokesperson, says Ntuli arrived home driving his vehicle, and after packing, he went to the door to ask his children to open it for him. Within the blink of an eye, an unknown man approached and started shooting at him and sustained gunshot wounds.
A case of murder is being investigated by Boyshabelo detectives. No one has been arrested yet but anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect(s) in this case is requested to contact the police.
