(The Post News)- Title opponents’ hopes will be raised by news that Rodri’s season is finished due to his ACL injury. Records show the Premier League champions struggle when the Spaniard isn’t anchoring their midfield, according to data from “Opta.”
According to BeSoccer sources, Rodri won’t play for Manchester City for the remainder of the season, which may confirm their worst nightmares. The midfielder was pulled off the pitch during the Arsenal meeting on Sunday for what is believed to be an ACL injury.
Although evidence suggests that his absence may mark a turning point in the Premier League title race, his injury is still a major loss for Manchester City. The Citizens had only lost five times in all competitions during the previous season.
When the Spaniard was not playing to support Man City’s midfield, they lost three of the five games (one in the Carabao Cup and one in the Premier League). Rodri had not lost a game in 74 matches, a European record, until his fifth setback against Manchester United in the FA Cup final.
Man City has won 74% of the games in which he has appeared since he joined the team and lost just 11%. However, when Rodri is not there, there is a noticeable decline. Man City’s win rate has decreased by 62% in the 45 games he has missed, which translates to 23 points being lost in 21 Premier League games without him.
‘Opta’ statistics indicates that City’s average points per game drops from 2.37 to just 1.90 when Rodri is out of the lineup. Given the damage to the City cornerstone, this statistic will greatly help Arsenal, a Premier League competitor, who will now like their prospects of winning the title more than before.
