(The Post News)- Zamalek wins CAF Super Cup against Tau’s Ahly After upsetting rivals Al Ahly in a penalty shootout, the Super Cup winner was declared the CAF Super Cup champions. After 90 minutes on Friday night, the match in Saudi Arabia’s Kingdom Arena in Riyadh concluded in a 1-1 draw.
The match ended in penalties, where the super cup winners won 4-3 after making four of them and Al Ahly missing two. The Zamalek players protested an Al Ahly penalty during the tense Egyptian derby.
Percy Tau, the deputy captain of Bafana Bafana, began for Al Ahly even though his future with the team is still unknown. Tau performed admirably, coordinating his right-side teammates efficiently. But when he was replaced in the 66th minute, he was clearly furious.
Eight-time Super Cup winners Al Ahly seized the lead in the 44th minute when Abou Ali converted a penalty. Zamalek’s Nasser Mansy, a replacement, tied the score in the 77th minute.
After the game went to penalties, Zamalek won. The club has not won a Super Cup since 2020, and this is their fifth. In addition, they have 28 Egyptian Premier League championships and five CAF Champions League crowns. The most prosperous team on the continent, Al Ahly, has 44 Champions League victories to its name.
