ActionSA has brought criminal charges against Thembi Simelane, the Minister of Justice, alleging that she violated the common law of forgery and the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities in relation to the loan of more than 500,000 rand that she took out from Gundo Wealth Solutions.
(The Post News)- Action for South Africa (ActionSA) has charged Thembi Simelane, the Minister of Justice, with violating the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Acts, as well as the common law crime of forgery. The allegations against her stem from the shady over R500 000 “loan” she obtained from Gundo Wealth Solutions.
In a media statement, ActionSA mentioned that it was discovered that the loan agreement, which she refused to present to the Justice Portfolio Committee of Parliament during her appearance, may be a forgery. In addition, it is alleged that the documents she provided appeared to have been created after the agreement was finalized in efforts to legitimize a purportedly illegal transaction.
ActionSA has accused the president, speaker of parliament, and the public protector of showing no interest in holding Simelane accountable for egregious accusations that threaten the country’s justice system. Thus, ActionSA has decided to take further actions to ensure that the minister is held accountable. The party believes that accountability should not be delayed any longer, given the gravity of the accusations, the grave consequences should she be found guilty, and the possible influence on her continued leadership on the justice system of SA.
Furthermore, ActionSA has urged the president to suspend Simelane until any existing investigations are completed, and the minister has been encouraged to resign if she has any honor for her position.
Meanwhile, the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development stated in a media statement that it believes filing criminal charges is the correct course of action where there is suspicion of illegal activities. The department further said investigating this matter would lead to a reasonable conclusion.
