
Renowned film producer Duma ka Ndlovu has been charged with tax evasion amounting to R25-million
(The Post News)- On Tuesday, 02 October 2024, the film producer, Duma ka Ndlovu, appeared at the Johannesburg Specialised Commercial Crime Court to face charges of tax evasion. Ka Ndlovu’s troubles began on Monday night when he was arrested by authorities for allegedly not declaring personal and corporate income tax.
Ndlovu is well- known for being the producer of popular TV shows such as Muvhango, Umkhokha, The Curse, and Queen Modjadji
Unfortunately, he was not arrested alone but he was with tax practitioners who are, Rodney Mutsharini and Maxwell Mloyi they also appeared with him at court yesterday. All of them faces several charges of fraud and tax evasion.
Ndlovu is accused of defrauding the taxman of R25-million, Allegations told that Duma ka Ndlovu engaged in prolonged criminal activity by concealing his business income from the South African Revenue Service (SARS), thereby evading tax payments over several years.
The State Capture Commission, chaired by former Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, implicated Ambrobrite. Evidence revealed that Ambrobrite received over R3.5 million from Bain SA for connections to top political figures, including communication and links to procurement officials.
Drama unfolded in court when Ndlovu’s lawyer, Andrew Kruger, asked the judge to ban media coverage. He believed broadcasting the bail hearing would invade his client’s privacy.
The lawyers for Ndlovu’s co-accused joined in, also requesting the proceedings are still private. Despite the accused being unknown, Kruger argued that live TV broadcasts would violate his client’s rights. This was all due to him being a public figure.
Ndlovu was granted bail of R100, 000 and told not to connect with any state witnesses, while Mutsharini and Mloyi were both granted bail of R50, 000 each. Both accused were also informed not to speak to witnesses. They also have to report to the Randburg police station and Germiston police station, respectively. This was based on the addresses of their residence.
The case was postponed to November 11, and they were also being informed to give in there expired passports to the investigators office
