(The Post News)- Gayton McKenzie, the Minister of Sports, Art, and Culture has opened up about the Virtual Assistant Referee in South African Football. He took it to social media that he spoke to the South African Football Association (SAFA) and Premier Soccer League (PSL) in making VAR a possibility.
“We spoke to both Dr Danny Jordaan & Dr Khoza,I went through the presentation & finance required,” said the minister on a Facebook post.
He confirmed that he was contacted by the team that brought VAR to the English Premier league. And will soon report in detail.
South African Football is in dire need for the VAR, due to referee obvious mistakes. The opening of the league saw few teams benefiting and coaches suffering while others boast for benefiting.
Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs match had Network Citizens bashing referee officials. Due to making Masandawana benefit from the game and win 2-1.
Introduction of VAR would fade the brown envelope accusations and repeated mistakes in officiating officials. While it also brings development to the S.A Football.
“Always on top of your game and keeping your promises your work speaks for itself thank you Honorable McKenzie,” Tshepiso Matotong’s comment.
Erick Mdala showed appreciation “Thank you very much minister. Your projects are always a success. Yourself and minister Mchunu, we are seeing leadership with their boots on.”
