Sanco in Limpopo calls for family support for two women whose bodies were thrown into the pigsty at the farm
(The Post News)- When answering questions in Parliament during questions and answer session about two women whose bodies were allegedly thrown into the pigsty at a farm in Limpopo, Agriculture Minister John Steenhuisen said they were not consumed by pigs. Maria Makgato (47) and Lucia Ndlovu (34) were killed and allegedly thrown in the pigsty in Sebayeng outside Mankweng in Limpopo in August 2024.
Steninhuisen, who was answering a question asked by the EFF Member of Parliament, Leigh Ann-Mathys, if the pigs were sold for human consumption or not? Steninhuisen said the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and police investigations were conducted and the postmortem revealed the pigs did not consume the human remains.Â
He further stated that the pigs were shot and killed, but he could not provide a list of customers and dates of purchasing since the farm was informal. “The pigs were killed and not made available for sale for human consumption,” added the minister.Â
Earlier this month, the South African National Civic Organization (Sanco) Capricorn Regional spokesperson Nomonde Sivhabu ensured they would stand with the families through thick and thin to see the perpetrators rot in jail.
After an incident, the farmer, Zachariah Olivier (60), and his employees de Wet (19) and William Musora (45) were arrested and charged with two counts of murder, attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice, and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
The case was postponed to Wednesday, 6 November 2024, and was referred back to the Mankweng Regional Court for further investigations.
