SASCO reclaimed its position once again after three years at the university of Venda.
(The Post News)- University of Venda’s Student Representative Council (SRC) elections have taken a thrilling turn, with South African Students Congress (SASCO) winning victorious after a three-year break.
University of Venda students seized the opportunity to shape their student leadership yesterday, October 10, by casting votes for their preferred party to take the reins for the next academic year. After three years under the EFFSC’s leadership, the students got to decide who will represent them again in the Student Representative Council (SRC).
It came as shock and excitement for some students when votes were announced and they were informed that the EFFSC has officially stepped down and that the SASCO has won the elections. After announcement , students gathered on campus to celebrate SASCO’s victory. Vusi Mokoena, known as “Jesu,” will lead the new SRC.
The atmosphere was electric, with students wearing SASCO shirts in numbers a, welcoming their new leader, with the rallying cry “Lead us President Jesu, take us to the promised lead.” Students were so excited, singing , dancing and matching with Sasco songs , this all happened after Sasco hosted the biggest party day before elections inviting different artists such as Makhadzi , shebeshit and many more.
Tshedza Gabara, SASCO’s Deputy Secretary General, took to social media to express her excitement, declaring “This is what we call White wash” and sharing her happiness at reclaiming their spot at the top after three years.
The election results were decisive, with SASCO securing 6563 votes, EFFSC getting 3110, and other parties trailing behind. This historic win signals a new era for the university, with the SRC poised to serve the student body. A lot of students expressed their interest in the SASCO win stating that it was time for change and that they believed that Jesu was the best leader to lead the university. With SASCO at the top, students can expect positive changes. Vusi “Jesu” Mokoena and his team promise to work tirelessly for the students’ benefit.
