(The Post News)- In a penalty shootout on Sunday in Bloemfontein, Kaizer Chiefs defeated Marumo Gallants 4-3, to win the inaugural 2024 Cultural Urban Festival Africa (CUFA) Cup.
The yearly Macufe Cup is replaced by this new competition. A legal battle between the Gallants and the organizers raised doubts that the game would be called off, although HomeSide only announced their participation this morning following an agreement.
After ninety minutes, the game was tied 0-0, setting up penalties. Each team’s first three attempts were successful. Bruce Bvuma of the Chiefs, who turned into the game’s most valuable player, denied Gallants’ fourth penalty kick to give his team the advantage.
Inacio Miguel, a defender for the Chiefs, then scored to make it 4-3. Bvuma continued to save penalties, giving his club the opportunity to win the CUFA Cup.
Amakhosi were crowned the winners of the inaugural 2024 Cultural Urban Festival Africa (CUFA) Cup.
