(The Post News)- Controversy erupted at the Cultural Urban Festival Africa in Bloemfontein, held from October 2-9, 2024, involving renowned artists Makhadzi and Oscar Mbo. Makhadzi took to social media to express her frustration and apologize to fans after her performance was cut short, lasting only 20 minutes.
Makhadzi alleged that Oscar Mbo’s DJ intentionally removed her USB, sabotaging her performance. “I am sorry to have performed for only 29 minutes. I do not know if this is all about Oscar Mbo’s PR trend, but why in such crazy moments when people paid money to see us? Unfortunately, Oscar’s DJ removed my USB when I was about to finish,” she stated.
The incident sparked public outrage and criticism against Oscar Mbo, prompting him to share his side of the story. Mbo attributed the issue to a communication breakdown with event organizers, specifically the promoter and stage manager. He clarified that he willingly shared his performance time with Makhadzi, who arrived late, but misunderstandings over scheduling and planning sparked the incident.
“I’m saying again, you and I are having this thing, yes, my team; I’m apologizing for them or him if he did that. I said it over the phone, and I’m repeating it now—if that did happen, I’m sorry, my sister,” Mbo said during a live broadcast. He claimed Makhadzi’s tardiness led to a 20-minute performance slot, which she subsequently exceeded. Event promoters then intervened, alerting her team to the time overrun.
Makhadzi acknowledged Mbo’s raised voice during their call but attributed it to his frustration with public backlash, not the incident itself. “His frustration wasn’t about what happened, but about me sharing it publicly,” she explained.
This is not Oscar Mbo’s first controversy with a Limpopo artist. Previously, Kharishma accused him of having her removed from the stage, sparking calls for a boycott of his events.
