(The Post News)- Busisiwe Mkhwebane, an impeached former public protector, announced on Wednesday morning that she has resigned from the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). She handed over her letter of resignation to Julius Malema, the president of EFF, and the leaders of the party.
In her resignation letter, which she released on X, she expressed disappointment that she had been ousted as public protector. She went on to say that after seven years, she believes their fight for freedom was hopeless, and she has never felt her rights were violated more than she did while working as the nation’s public protector.
According to Mkhwebane, she has faced difficulties and feels let down by the present South African judiciary, parliament, executive, and, most notably, the mainstream media, which appears to have been “tasked” with targeting and attacking her character. Mkhwebane further stated that her only sin was investigating the CIEX report, the CR17 donations, and the Phalaphala farm scam, as well as giving reports and conclusions against specific persons who were angry and felt compelled to deal with her harshly.
She also alleges her family was attacked, and before her mother died, the media harassed her. Mkhwebane also claimed that she survived multiple assassination attempts.
Mkhwebane added that after careful consideration and conversation with her family, they believed it was necessary for her to “go away, spend time with them, rest,” and continue to fight for the disadvantaged wherever feasible. She expressed her sincere gratitude to the EFF’s members and supporters for their steadfast support, which she described as a “beacon of hope.”
