(The Post News)– At the Al Smith charity dinner on Thursday night, former US President Donald Trump insulted Vice President Kamala Harris’ family, regularly mispronounced her name, and grumbled about his treatment during his presidency, receiving some cheers and laughs from the supportive audience.
The Catholic fundraiser in New York City, known for its light roasts by major-party nominees in election years, was where Trump gave a monologue. Harris, who had opted out of attending the event, just finished her sixth visit to battleground Wisconsin after Biden left the race.
Harris did not attend the 2020 remote dinner during the Covid pandemic, but did send a video message to participants.
Harris stated that according to the Gospel of Luke, faith can illuminate those in darkness and lead us on the peaceful path. “In tribute to the esteemed AI Smith, let’s strive to create a brighter tomorrow with belief in God, our nation, and one another.”
In her video, the vice president also did a skit with comedian Molly Shannon, who reprised her role as “Saturday Night Live’s” Mary Katherine Gallagher, the always enthusiastic Catholic schoolgirl, warning Harris to avoid any criticism of Catholics in her speech. Harris said that she would never do something like that under any circumstances.
Trump mocked Harris’s intelligence and communication skills.
“I had little enthusiasm for Biden before, but now I have developed a strong liking for him. If we are successful in winning, I will have a high regard for her, but at the moment, I cannot tolerate her,” stated Trump.
He proceeded to criticize transgender individuals and Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer, indicating that if Harris is defeated.
He proceeded to take a jab at transgender individuals and Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer, suggesting that if Harris doesn’t win, he could still potentially become the first female president.
Trump claimed to have endured greater hardships than Abraham Lincoln, who managed the Civil War and was assassinated. He claimed that no other president has been mistreated as much as he has.
Trump made fun of Harris’s laughter, pronounced her name incorrectly, and suggested she was absent to receive Communion from Gretchen Whitmer, the Democratic governor of Michigan who apologized for a video criticized by a Catholic organization for disrespecting the ritual.
Trump criticized Harris for not being at the event, calling it a sign of disrespect to the Catholic community, prompting applause. He made a joke about Walter Mondale, the last Democrat to not attend the Al Smith dinner and who lost in 49 states. Fix grammar error keep the article length
