(The Post News)- Highly classified documents describing Israel preparations to retaliate a strike on Iran were leaked on Telegram messaging app on October 19 2024 by “Middle East Spectator.” These documents, marked as top secret, were attributed to the Nation Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA) and the National Security Agency (NSA).
CNN reported that the documents were meant to be seen by “Five Eyes” which includes the United States,United Kingdom, New Zealand, Canada and Australia.
According to NewsBytes, leaked documents reveal Israel’s strategies against Iran’s nuclear facilities, including air-to-air refueling and search-and-rescue operations. A lengthy history of hostilities and strategic threats is the basis of Israel’s willingness to respond against Iran.
Iran continues to supported Hezbollah and Hamas for their self-defense against Israel’s unlawful attack of both in Gaza and Lebanon. Tensions escalated when Isreal assassinated Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah leader Hassan Nesrallah. Their killings saw a massive rocket attack on Israel by Iran in response to their assassinations.
Haniyeh was assassinated on July 31 during a visit to Tehran. While Nesrallah was assassinated on September 27 in central Lebanon.
CBS news reported that the Department of Defense and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are collaborating closely to track down the documents’ original source and stop their further distribution. U.S government has launched an investigation to determine the source of the leak and assess potential national security damage.
House Speaker Mike Johnson called the leak “very concerning,” as reported by GB News. Authorities are investigating whether the leak was the product of a cyberattack or the deliberate action of an intelligence community member.
Mick Mulroy, a former deputy assistant secretary of defense for the Middle East, warned that if the leak is verified, the future of U.S.- Israel military coordination could be jeopardized as reported by GB News. This situation could complicate diplomatic efforts and heighten tensions between Israel and Iran, particularly if Tehran bolsters its defenses in response to the revealed information.
