(The Post News)- A horrific terror attack shocked the Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir last night, claiming the lives of six construction workers and a doctor. The victims, including locals and non-locals, were brutally gunned down at a campsite where they were building a tunnel for a private company in the Gund area.
The assailants, reportedly two terrorists, had opened fire on the unsuspected workers, leaving a trail of death and destruction. The area has been cordoned off by the army and the police, who have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators.
The victims have been identified as Dr Shahnawaz from Budgam, Gurmeet Singh from Punjab, Mohammed Haneef, Faheem Nasir, Kaleem, Anil Kumar Shukla from Mahya Pradesh, and Shashi Abrol from Jammu. The attackers left behind an INSAS rifle, which is a chilling reminder of the senseless violence.
Jammu and Kashmir’s newly elected Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, condoling the lost lives strictly condemned the “dastardly and cowardly attack” on unarmed labourers. He emphasised that these workers were only contributing to a vital infrastructure project in the region.
Manoj Sinha, Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor, had assured the public that those who are responsible for this heinous act would surely face justice, sharing that full freedom has been given to the security forces to act.
He added that on Monday, Pakistan was still trying to kill innocent people and disrupt the I Jammu and Kashmir. Sinha also requested that the police to investigate the Ganderbal terror attack so that justice can be served to the victims and their families. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi and the Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also denounced the attack, terming it a “crime against humanity.”
This terrific incident comes on the heels of another targeted killing in Shopian district last week, where a labourer from Bihar was found dead with bullet injuries. This attack has sent shockwaves across the nation, with many demanding immediate actions against the perpetrators.
This incident marks one of the deadliest terror attacks in recent times, occurring after a few days of the formation of a new government in the Union Territory following a significant election. The people of Jammu and Kashmir were stunned in shock, and are seeking justice for the innocent lives lost. The attack highlights concern about the security situation in the region, which sparks outrage and calls for accountability.
