(The Post News)- The Eastern Cape Community Safety MEC, Xolile Nqatha, has confirmed that the provincial government provided psychological support and a place of safety to five grade 12 learners who are victims of rape in Mqhekezweni village outside Mthatha.
The frustrated Mqatha is confident that the offenders will eventually be arrested and prosecuted for their crimes. While the police investigation continues, a suspect in connection with the rapes is currently being questioned. The MEC noted that based on the police progress in this crime scene thus far, he is optimistic that the culprits will soon be serving their time behind bars.
Meanwhile, the murder of the traditional leader of Mqhekezweni village in the Eastern Cape, Chieftainess Nogcinile Mtirara, who was gunned down, still shocked the residents. At this point, it is still not yet clear if the rape incidents are linked to the murder of Mtirara, whom the late President Nelson Mandela spent his teenage year at her family.
