Both campaigns have seen a number of shocking events, from Trump’s felony conviction to two assassination attempts on his life. Meanwhile, many have been startled by Harris’ surge to the top following President Joe Biden’s resignation from the presidential contest due to intense pressure from within his party.
Today, American voters are finally casting their ballots and making a final decision on who their next president will be. In this year’s election, the voter turnout is expected to be a resilient one, with Americans anxiously waiting to make their voices heard in what is a very close contest between Harris and Trump.
Voters will get the opportunity to give thoughts on many other elections happening at the federal and local levels. Millions of Americans are expected to have cast their votes by the time polls close. More than 200 million Americans voted in the 2020 presidential election, with turnout reaching its highest level since 1992. The United States election results have in past times been declared within hours of the polls closing, but this year’s neck-on-neck contest could possibly mean a longer wait.
Democrat Harris, who is the current vice president, and Republican Trump, the former president, have been running neck-and-neck for months in their quest to come at the top, and Trump has signaled that he will attempt to fight defeat, as he did in 2020.
Both candidates urged supporters who have not yet cast their ballots to make their mark on election day. Trump appeared before a large crowd in an arena in Pittsburgh and offered what his campaign called his final closing message to voters in the last hours before election day. “We’ve been waiting four years for this,” said Trump, who predicated a 2024 comeback bid after losing the 2020 election to Joe Biden.
