On Wednesday, November 6, Earthshot Prize finialists met Prince William before the Prize ceremony in Cape Town.
(The Post News)- Earlier on Wednesday, the inventors and environmental leaders met with the Prince of Wales, the Earthshot Prize’s creator, to discuss their groundbreaking solutions at South Africa’s famous Cape Town Stadium, kicking off the countdown to the prestigious Earthshot Prize event.
Out of more than 1,000 nominations, the 15 finalists were chosen to represent five continents and a variety of industries. To address urgent environmental issues, such as conservation and climate change, they have created creative solutions. Prince William spoke with all of the finalists, finding out more about their initiatives and their possible effects.
Five important topics are covered by the Earthshot Prize categories: fix our climate, clean our air, revive our oceans, build a waste-free world, and protect and restore nature. The goal of the prize is to encourage and support global environmental solutions, and these categories form the basis of that purpose.
The Earthshot Prize Award Ceremony took place on Wednesday evening, November 6, in Cape Town, South Africa, where five winners received £1 million to expand their planet-saving solutions. The top acts from this year’s Cape Town carnival warmly welcomed the 2,000 guests that attended the event ceremony, which was hosted by Prince William.
Moreover, the guests then went inside the spectacular eco-dome, Africa’s largest of its kind, where prominent individuals like Heidi Klum walked the legendary green carpet alongside the event’s hosts, Emmy-winning actor Billy Porter and TV and radio personality Bonang Matheba. Since Prince Willam first hosted the Earthshot award ceremony in London three years ago, followed by Boston and Singapore a year ago, the green carpet has been essential.
According to an article by Emily Ferguson Express, the event was aimed toward young people, and it included appearances by The Ndlovu Youth Choir, Winnie Harlow, Robert Irwin, Nina Dobrev, Davido, and Uncle Waffles. Additionally, Ferguson stated that the award ceremony commenced with a spectacular pre-recorded rendition of the Circle of Life from the Lion King’s on top of the Table Moutain by composer and performer Lebo M. The Prize’s network of over 430 candidates from 75 countries submitted close to 2,500 nominations, from which this year’s finalists were chosen.
The Earthshot Prize seeks to empower the upcoming generation of environmental leaders and encourage group action. Excitement is growing about these creative solutions’ ability to effect substantial change as the awards ceremony draws near.
