Advocate Dali Mpofu has announced that he has joined the MK Party, which is led by former president Jacob Zuma.
(The Post News)- Advocate Dali Mpofu, former Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) chairperson, has publicly announced his departure from the party to join the uMkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party. The announcement was made during an interview with the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) on Thursday morning, 7 November.
Mpofu told the SABC that the decision comes after a long period of soul searching, which led him to conclude that the MK party is the only feasible choice for achieving long-awaited black and progressive unity.
Interestingly, Dali Mpofu has also revealed that he played a pivotal role in the formation of the MK party together with former president Jacob Zuma. According to Mpofu, for a period of two months, he and Zuma were the only ones who knew about it. He further disclosed that he was part of the meetings held by the Zuma and leaders from various organizations before the MK party was formed, and he also chaired a meeting to discuss his vision, and the MK party leader was present.
Dali Mpofu’s move is not an isolated incident, as he is among the number of leaders to jump ship from the EFF to the MK party led by former president Jacob Zuma. First it was the former deputy president Floyed Shivambu, followed by Mzwanele Manyi, Mpho Morale, former public protector advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane, and Fana Mokoena.
Additionally, Mpofu said that, as a courtesy, he tried to reach out to the EFF leader Julius Malema to inform him about his decision, but it was unsuccessful. He noted that there is no need to tell anyone at any particular time. He further said he looks forward to extending his courtesy after the announcement. He believes that he is doing this for his people, not because he is fighting with a specific individual.
