(The Post News)- President Joe Biden has pledged to facilitate a calm and peaceful transition of power to president-elect, Donald Trump. Biden made this comment on Thursday during his first address to Americans, following Donald Trump’s victory in Tuesday’s election.
Biden became the first president to refrain from seeking reelection after his first complete term since 1968, when Lyndon B. Johnson stepped down due to backlash related to the Vietnam War. However, Biden’s selected successor, Vice President Kamala Harris, was unable to secure victory on Tuesday, triggering a surge of reflection and blame among Democrats.
In a seven-minute speech to the country, the president praised Trump, for his return to power, encouraged Americans to accept that outcome and vowed to facilitate the orderly transfer of power that Mr. Trump attempted to hinder four years prior.
The President stated that he contacted Trump and guaranteed him that his administration would collaborate with his team to facilitate a smooth and orderly transition.
On Wednesday, a spokesperson for Trump, Steven Cheung, stated that Biden called Trump to congratulate him on his win and offered an invitation to the White House to facilitate a seamless transition between the existing administration and the upcoming administration.
Cheung stated that Trump is eager for the upcoming meeting, which is happening soon, and greatly valued the call.
Biden seeks to put an end to the trend of politicians eroding the credibility of elections when they don’t win. Biden stated that the elections in the country are safe and produce accurate outcomes. The electoral system is genuine, open, and reliable, whether one wins or loses. He emphasized the importance of thanking election workers, many of whom offered their time and encountered threats while performing the routine tasks of tallying votes.
Just as election workers fulfilled their responsibilities as citizens, Biden stated he would fulfill his responsibilities as president to ensure Trump assumes office in January.
Biden urged Trump’s administration and congressional Republicans to maintain the investments he facilitated in the nation’s infrastructure and the economy’s shift from fossil fuels. Trump and Republicans have vowed to eliminate numerous investments that Biden enacted into law. Many of the initiatives are just starting, Biden stated, and Americans will begin to observe new bridges, improved broadband, and various other projects being developed in the coming ten years.
Biden said that he would uphold his promise, and he intends to respect the Constitution. He therefore stated that, on January 20, there will be a peaceful transfer of power in America.
