ANC youth league president, urges Julies Malema to rejoin the ANC Image : Vaal metro
(The Post News)- ANC Youth League leader Collen Malatji has extended an unexpected invitation to Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema to rejoin the African National Congress (ANC). Malatji views Malema’s dismissal from the ANC as “reckless” and “harsh,” attributing his political views and leadership style to the ANC.
The invitation comes at a time when the EFF is experiencing internal strife and resignations, including the defection of prominent member Floyd Shivambu to the MK Party, led by former President Jacob Zuma. Interestingly, Shivambu’s departure is seen by some as Zuma’s retaliation against Malema for his role in ousting him from office in 2018. Zuma resigned under pressure from the ANC, facing charges of corruption and accepting money from the Gupta family.
Malatji believes Malema’s alliance with Shivambu, whom Malema has called a “snake,” has contributed to the EFF’s difficulties. He suggests Malema should be held accountable for bringing Shivambu into the EFF. Despite this, Malatji welcomes Malema’s potential return to the ANC, citing his roots in the Youth League and ANC politics.
Malatji’s offer may be strategic, aiming to help Malema navigate Zuma’s “wrath.” He stated, “We will give him the poison to kill the snake,” referring to the internal conflicts within the EFF. This development raises questions about Malema’s future and the potential realignment of South African politics, particularly as the EFF prepares for its election conference next month.
The EFF was founded by Malema in 2013 after his expulsion from the ANC, and has since become a significant force in South African politics, advocating for radical economic and social change. Malema’s decision will likely have far-reaching implications for the country’s political landscape.
