(The Post News)- Real Sociedad held Barcelona to a victory of 1-0. That resulted from Robert Luwandowski’s goal. That was disallowed by the semi-automated offside system, which was first used in the Super Cup in 2023, and later introduced in La Liga.
The technology is operated by the Hawk Eye. It has between 10 to 12 cameras depending on the match, capturing 29 position of a player in 50 times a second. It has a 3H creation player of less than 25 seconds.
For the Spanish Super Cup in January 2023, the RFEF implemented a new rule: semi-automated offside. ‘Merengues’ and ‘Cules’ defeated Real Madrid’s Valencia and Real Betis, Barcelona in the semifinals, setting up a ‘Clasico’ that the Catalan team, with Xavi Hernandez on the bench, triumphed 1-3. The Federation gave an explanation of the technologies that FIFA had previously incorporated the day before the first round of eliminations.
The organization accomplished this by summarizing the dynamics in a one-minute and forty-six-second film. In this video, twelve cameras would identify 29 places on the player’s body that might be in an illegal position. All of the zones that are considered when identifying these violations with 50 detections per second would be considered the selected zones. An artificial intelligence system would alert the referees if a player overtook them.
Next, using their screens, the referees in the VOR room would confirm that the line drawn and the frame selected at the time of the pass were accurate. The business that was hired for these duties under a four-season contract, that is, until 2027–2028, would transmit a 3D recreation created in no more than 25 seconds by the “Hawk Eye” software after this was certified and the decision was validated on the field.
The toes of the players’ boots are two of the boundaries that the offside detection system operates with. This is the source of the controversy surrounding Lewandowski’s goal: Hansi Flick and a significant portion of the fan base believe that the technology mistook the Pole’s feet for those of the defender protecting him, Nayef Aguerd.
