(The Post News)- A strange interaction between First Lady Jill Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris at Arlington Cemetery has sparked a flurry of discussions online, with numerous users perceiving Jill’s actions as a slight. On Veterans Day, Harris and her spouse, Douglas Emhoff, made their way to their seats while greeting those nearby, but Jill failed to recognise Harris, continuing to look straight ahead behind her dark sunglasses.
According to conservative commentator Steve Cortes, “It’s safe to say that Jill Biden hates Kamala Harris’ guts.” Journalist Andy Ngo characterised Jill as “stone-faced” during the encounter. According to Italian TV journalist Leonardo Panetta, Jill “did not get up to greet her and then remained seated next to the vice president wearing sunglasses without deigning to look at her”.
The incident inspired jokes and memes, with analyst Dave Rubin likening the purported dispute to a scene from “The Golden Girls.” Others have claimed that the friction may indicate a bigger “rift” inside the party following Harris’ loss to President-elect Donald Trump.
Despite the rumours, Jill had previously campaigned for Harris and spoken about their similar experiences, including the loss of close family members to cancer. However, her behaviour at the ceremony has raised concerns, notably when she cordially greeted Emhoff.
The encounter has also sparked international attention, with many commenting on the clear tension between the two. While neither Jill Biden’s office nor Kamala Harris’ team has commented on the incident, the first lady is set to travel to Philadelphia to deliver remarks at a gala for the Philadelphia250 organisation, celebrating America’s semi-quincentennial next year
