(The Post News)-Lefore Lerefolo, a former member of the South African Football Association (SAFA) National Executive Committee, has stated the board of SAFA should be placed under administration. This follows the arrest of SAFA president Danny Jordaan and his two co-accused.
Jordaan, businessman Trevor Neethling, and SAFA CFO Gronie Gluyo were arrested on Wednesday, and they are facing charges of fraud and theft amounting to R1.3 million. The three appeared before the Palm Ridge Special Cormmerial Crimes Court in Johannesburg East, where they were granted bail of R20,000 each.
According to Lerefolo, SAFA’s NEC is clearly dysfunctional in light of the recent claims. He stated that SAFA should address any severe internal issues and provide the nation with a statement. “Ultimately, though, neither the SAFA NEC nor the accounting body have contacted us,” he said.
Lerefolo further accused SAFA of ignoring issues brought to its attention, alleging that in 2018, these issues were raised and a raid was conducted at SAFA, but the SAFA NEC did not contact them. He further wondered if the issues raised were investigated by the ethics committee, as no investigation was conducted.
Lerefolo maintains that SAFA is dysfunctional, noting that there was no report available for SAFA NEC to discuss issues that are brought up by professional bodies.
