Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, a founding member and prominent MP of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), faces uncertain future within the party amid reports of internal power struggles and exclusion from key events.
(The Post News)- The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), South Africa’s third-largest political party, is embroiled in an internal power struggle that threatens to oust one of its founding members and most prominent voices, Mbuyiseni Ndlozi. Reports indicate that Ndlozi has been barred from attending the party’s national conference next month, sparking speculation about his future within the organization.
Ndlozi, a Member of Parliament and former National Spokesperson of the EFF, has been an integral part of the party’s leadership since its inception in 2013. His charismatic presence, sharp intellect, and unwavering commitment to the party’s radical economic policies have made him a favorite among EFF supporters. However, rumors of internal tensions and power struggles within the party’s top echelons have been circulating for months.
The EFF’s national conference, scheduled to take place in December, is a critical event that will determine the party’s leadership and policy direction for the next five years. Ndlozi’s exclusion from this gathering has raised eyebrows, with many interpreting it as a deliberate attempt to marginalize him.
Sources close to the party suggest that Ndlozi’s relationship with EFF leader Julius Malema has become increasingly strained. Malema, known for his authoritarian leadership style, has allegedly been consolidating power within the party, surrounding himself with loyalists and silencing dissenting voices.
“Mbuyiseni has been vocal about his disagreements with Julius on various issues, including the party’s stance on land expropriation and the handling of internal conflicts,” said an EFF insider, speaking on condition of anonymity. “Julius sees Mbuyiseni as a threat to his leadership and is using every tool at his disposal to neutralize him.”
Ndlozi’s exclusion from the national conference has sparked outrage among EFF supporters, with many taking to social media to express their solidarity with the embattled MP. The hashtag #HandsOffMbuyiseni has been trending on Twitter, with users calling for Ndlozi’s reinstatement and an end to the party’s internal power struggles.
The EFF’s internal conflicts come at a critical juncture in South African politics. The party has been gaining momentum, particularly among young voters, due to its radical economic policies and anti-corruption stance. However, the infighting threatens to undermine the party’s credibility and damage its electoral prospects.
“Mbuyiseni’s departure would be a significant blow to the EFF,” said Dr. Sithembile Mbete, a political analyst at the University of Pretoria. “He brings a level of intellectual depth and charisma that is hard to replace. The party’s leadership needs to prioritize unity and coherence if they hope to capitalize on their growing popularity.”
