The high rate of sexual assault on minors in Limpopo province doesn’t give a peaceful night to the Social Development MEC Florence Ratzilani.
(The Post News)- Social Development MEC Florence Ratzilani has expressed concerns about incidents of sexual assaults on minors after a 22-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping two girls aged three and four at Mafukani outside Thohoyandou in Limpopo.
According to Ratzilani, in the past two months, sexual assault in minors has reached an unacceptably high rate. Ratzilani encouraged the province’s males to safeguard women and children from perpetrators who perceive them as prey.
The Department of Social Development’s spokesperson, Joshua Kwapa, stated that a mother to one of the children saw a man taking the children to the bush near their home and followed them. Kwapa added that when the mother arrived in the bush, she found the man raping the little girls, and he immediately fled the scene upon noticing her. “The girls were taken to the clinic, where it was confirmed that they had been raped,” said Kwapa. The suspect was later detained and is scheduled to appear in Mutale Magistrate’s Court today on allegations of two counts of rape.
Meanwhile, on Friday, November 18, 2024, the Western Cape High Court condemned Edward Ayuk (44) to life in jail, while Leandre (40) and Yannick Ayuk (34) received 15 years in prison for human trafficking. According to police provincial spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi, the convicts trafficked people from the Western and Eastern Capes to work as prostitutes in Minerton and neighboring regions in the Western Cape.
