(The Post News)- Mia Le Roux, South Africa’s reigning beauty queen, has broken her silence following her surprise withdrawal from the Miss Universe event. Despite being the first hearing-impaired champion in the competition’s 66-year history, the 26-year-old withdrew due to severe vertigo.
Le Roux revealed in an emotional video message that she was unable to stand without assistance as her vertigo worsened and became uncontrollable. “Mentally, I was very strong; I was ready, but physically, my body was taking strain,” she stated.
Vertigo is a condition in which you feel dizzy and as if the world is whirling around you. It’s really intense and can cause serious problems with your equilibrium. She explained that she was mentally strong and prepared, but her body was under strain to a point where she had to seek medical attention in Mexico City. She further said that even with the medical treatment, her situation was still not better.
Le Roux, who was diagnosed with profound hearing loss at the age of one and now uses a cochlear implant, claimed that her condition worsened in Mexico, prompting her to seek medical attention. Despite therapy, her vertigo continued, making it impossible for her to compete in the pageant.
According to Le Roux, she kept falling on stage and could not get up on her own. She also stated that after discussing with the production team, she understood that she wasn’t able to walk on stage safely. She has subsequently returned home after the Miss South Africa organization confirmed her withdrawal in a statement. She thanked fans for their warmth and support in her video message.
