(The Post News)- The ANC National Disciplinary Committee of Appeal upheld the decision to expel former president Jacob Zuma on Friday.
The appeal was an effort exercised by Mr Zuma to remain a member of the ANC political party after his expulsion in July 2024.
Initially Zuma was suspended from the ANC in January 2024 after he announced that he would campaign for the newly-formed UMkhonto WeSizwe (MK) Party in the national and provincial 2024 elections.
The ANC’s National Disciplinary Committee (NDC) found Zuma guilty of “the highest form of ill-discipline and a direct assault on the historical mission of the ANC”.
The ANC confirmed in a media statement that the suspension of the former President was informed by his lack of emboding the highest standards of disciplined leadership as a former president of the party and his subsequent decision to undermine the unity and cohesion of the movement at a critical time.
“This severe breach of our organisational foundation necessitated his explusion to safeguard the ANC’s integrity and ensure that the unity of the organisation remains in form and content” said ANC spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri.
Bhengu-Motsiri elaborated in a media statement that the upheld decision of Zuma’s appeal serves as a reminder that no individual is greater than the movement.
The ANC takes disciplinary action against any individual who undermines the impactful legacy mission of the party despite their status or credentials.
