(The Post News)- Pieter-Steph du Toit has been named World Rugby Player of the Year 2024, a remarkable achievement for the Springboks’ veteran flanker. His powerful performances were crucial during South Africa’s victorious Rugby World Cup campaign and continued to shine in their latest Autumn International.
On Saturday, 23 November 2024, South Africa overwhelmed Wales 45-12 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. The Springboks displayed dominance from the outset, securing a 26-5 lead at halftime. Tries from Franco Mostert, Eben Etzebeth, Kurt-Lee Arendse, and Elrigh Louw highlighted the first-half performance. The second half saw additional tries from Aphelele Fassi, Gerhard Steenekamp, and Jordan Hendrikse, securing a comfortable victory. Wales responded with late tries from Rio Dyer and James Botham, but it wasn’t enough to counter South Africa’s clinical play.
The Springboks’ excellence has also been recognized globally, with several players making the World Rugby Men’s 15 Dream Team of the Year. This reflects their consistency and talent, firmly establishing them as a dominant force in world rugby. As 2024 draws to a close, South African rugby fans have plenty to celebrate. From a triumphant World Cup campaign to dominating global awards, the Springboks have proven once again why they are the gold standard in international rugby.
