(The Post News)- The Ukrainian air force reported that over the weekend, 73 Russian attack drones violated the country’s airspace, following a week where both sides used cutting-edge weapons systems on the battlefield.
The Ukrainian air force reported shooting down 50 out of the 73 Russian drones that entered their airspace. Nineteen additional drones were lost during their flight, while four remained airborne in Ukrainian airspace shortly after 7 a.m. local time.
The Russian Defense Ministry stated that they shot down 36 Ukrainian drones during the overnight hours of Saturday and early Sunday. Drone swaps have been a consistent factor in Russia’s complete invasion of its neighboring country, growing in size and frequency as the conflict continues. Frequently, Russia pairs its UAV attacks with missile strikes.
An American government representative also verified to ABC News that Ukrainian forces launched British Storm Shadow cruise missiles for the first time in Russia’s Kursk region, resulting in injuries including a wounded North Korean general. The Kremlin reacted with anger to the ATACMS attack on Tuesday. Russian President Vladimir Putin approved the long-awaited modifications to Russia’s nuclear strategy shortly after the attack. The alterations mean that if Ukraine’s Armed Forces use non-nuclear rockets from the West against Russia, it could lead to a nuclear retaliation, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
After making more nuclear threats, Russia launched a new intermediate-range ballistic missile in Dnipro, Ukraine, on Thursday. Moscow gave a 30-minute warning to the U.S. about the impending “Oreshnik” missile attack. The ministry stated that their strikes were included in a larger series of attacks on various military targets such as airfields, production facilities, storage sites for drones, and concentrations of enemy forces and equipment.
