(The Post News)- The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) has intensified its call for the South African government to take decisive action against Israel. This move comes on the heels of the International Criminal Court’s warrant of arrest for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yaav Gallant.
NUMSA has commended the South African government’s efforts in filing a case against Israel at the International Court of Justice, accusing Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians. The union has highlighted the staggering statistic that 70% of those murdered are women and children, with the highest category being children aged 5 to 9 years old.
The union has vehemently condemned Israel’s actions, labeling them as brutal and inhumane. NUMSA has demanded a permanent ceasefire in all Palestinian territories, an end to Israel’s occupation of Palestine, and for the US and its Western allies to cease funding Israel.
Furthermore, NUMSA has called for economic sanctions to be imposed on Israel until a democratic Palestinian state is established, where everyone has equal human rights. The union has also urged transport and dockworkers unions worldwide to refuse to handle military cargo and general cargo to Israel.
