Storm Darragh: Sky news
(The Post News)- At 3am this morning, a red “Risk to life” warning was issued, set to last until 11am. Storm Darragh is the fourth named storm of the season, bringing with it extremely strong winds and significant disruption.
Ireland was the first to experience the wrath of Darragh before it moved to the British Isles. The Government sent out a text warning in the early hours of the morning, with three million people receiving it ahead of landfall. The text alert was louder than a normal text, until it was switched off. The text read: “A RED warning of wind has been issued in your area. Extremely strong winds associated with Storm Darragh are expected to cause significant disruption. Strong winds can cause flying debris, falling trees and large waves around coastal areas, all of which can present a danger to life.”
The Cabinet Office’s emergency alert prompted residents to only grab essentials, including torches, batteries, a mobile phone power pack, and other items that may be of help. Darragh’s alert follows one of many warnings, with winds of up to 90mph expected. The worst is anticipated over coastal areas, as well as parts of West and South Wales.
Strong winds are expected to be directed through the British Channel, generating substantial waves on exposed beaches. Citizens are urged to stay indoors and avoid driving in the current weather conditions. This warning comes as many parts of the UK are still recovering from earlier storms.
