(The Post News)- Welcome to our weekly series, Discovering Africa. Every week, we randomly choose an African country and share its beauties with the world. Our aim is to educate our audience about the plethora of wonders people can see and experience on the African continent. This way, everyone can have a taste of Africa’s marvelous culture and decide to visit and experience it themselves. Please feel welcome to check out last week’s article about the Glorious Kenya.
This week, we shall present you with one of the most vibrant, dance- and rhythm-loving countries in West Africa, the wonderful Ghana. We will start this article with a great fun fact regarding Ghana’s flag. The three colors (red, yellow, and green) have a deeper meaning than just colors on a flag. Red represents the blood lost during the fight for independence, yellow showcases Ghana’s vast resources in minerals, and green, evidently, represents the beautiful green forests, followed by the star placed in the middle of the flag as a reminder of Ghana’s freedom.
Although the term Ghana in the Soninke language translates to “warrior king,” Ghana is one of the friendliest and most welcoming countries in the entire world. With beautiful landscapes and generally tropical weather all year round, due to its close position to the Equator, not only is the weather welcoming, but the entire nation is, too.
Rich in ecosystems (rainforests, grasslands, etc.), rich in diversity and culture, and a vast number of national parks (like Mole or Kakum), this extraordinary country will enchant you with its natural beauties and colorful landscapes. And if you are planning to visit, you better get your dance moves ready because Ghana masters the art of dancing and fun.
Africa.com tells us that the national dish is fufu, but we all know and love fufu in the company of delicious and flavorful stews, sauces, and other delicacies. Another essential aspect to mention is that if you love cocoa, you will be thrilled to know that Ghana is the second-largest cocoa producer in the world. Yes! You heard that right.
Let us know in the comments what other fun facts you know about Ghana and what the first thing you will do when you get there is—besides dancing, of course.
