Umkhonto we Sizwe Party Celebrates First Anniversary with Jacob Zuma’s Call to Unity and Reform
(The Post News)- Former South African President Jacob Zuma rallied his supporters at the Umkhonto we Sizwe Party’s first anniversary celebration, urging unity among black parties and challenging the electoral system. The event, held at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium, drew thousands of party members and supporters.
Zuma’s address emphasized the need for black parties to put aside internal conflicts and focus on taking power in the 2026 local government and 2029 national elections. “We are not playing here. This is the last phase of our fight for our country,” he said, calling on supporters to prepare for the upcoming elections and work towards reclaiming power.
The MK leader also highlighted the party’s disputed election results, claiming they were “robbed of a two-thirds majority” in the 29 May general elections. Zuma urged his supporters to challenge the status quo and demand public, local vote counting, stating, “They robbed us of our votes. In future, we must also be there as the community when they are counting our votes so we know exactly what has happened”.
Zuma’s speech also touched on his reasons for forming the Umkhonto we Sizwe Party, citing the ANC’s refusal to allow him to implement changes and its recall in 2018. He criticized the ANC’s alleged shift towards white interests and the Zondo state capture commission, which implicated him in corruption.
Deputy John Hlophe echoed Zuma’s call for unity, urging party members to address internal challenges and factionalism, stating, “We must address these issues decisively with a firm hand and an unwavering focus on the greater good”.
