Ronwen Williams bags two awards at the 2024 CAF Awards.
(The Post News)– The 2024 CAF Awards took place in Marrakech, Morocco, celebrating the best of African football. Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman took home the coveted African Men’s Player of the Year award after a standout season with Atalanta and significant contributions to Nigeria’s national team. In the women’s category, Barbra Banda of Zambia was named African Women’s Player of the Year, capping off a brilliant year that saw her lead Orlando Pride to an NWSL Championship title.
South Africa’s Ronwen Williams continued his impressive form and was crowned African Goalkeeper of the Year and interclub player of the year. The Mamelodi Sundowns shot-stopper’s consistent performances for both club and country earned him well-deserved recognition. His leadership and clutch performances, particularly in key continental matches, made him a standout performer over the past year. Williams was the only player who walked away with a double win, and his wins mark another milestone in what has been a career-defining season for the shot-stopper.
The night also celebrated rising stars, with Lamine Camara receiving the Young Player of the Year award, while Al Ahly and TP Mazembe were named Men’s and Women’s Clubs of the Year, respectively. Other winners on the night included Chiamaka Nnadozie, a Nigerian and Paris FC player, who won the title of the women’s goalkeeper of the year.
While Desiree Ellis, the coach for the South African women’s football team, was crowned as the women’s coach of the year, Walid Reragui, the Moroccan football team coach, walked away with coach of the year. Furthermore, Angolan Mabululu received the goal of the year honor. The ceremony highlighted Africa’s growing footballing talent and brought well-deserved recognition to players who made a mark both on the continent and internationally.
