(The Post News)– After Dutchman Christian Kist threw the first nine-darter of the World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace, a fortunate fan won a random £60,000 cash prize.
In his first-round encounter against Madars Razma, Kist threw the perfect leg of darts and won a whopping £60,000, which was more than he would have received had he advanced to the quarterfinals. Kist accomplished the record by hitting consecutive 180s. He then won the opening set by sending Ally Pally reeling with a triple 20, treble 19, and a spectacular double 12.
However, there was greater happiness for a Sutton fan named Kris, who was there as a birthday gift from his grandfather, who had given him the ticket last week. As part of title sponsor Paddy Power’s BIGGER 180 promotion, he was selected at random to receive the cash award. Additionally, £60,000 went to Prostate Cancer UK, a charity.
The fan stated that he was lost for words and that it wasn’t anything he had anticipated happening. “I’m still trembling; it’s unbelievable. I am here tonight with my brother and grandfather, who I went to a final with ten years ago since I am an avid darts fan. Since then, I have not returned,” stated the fan.
He further stated that it was a birthday present, so it’s even more special because his grandfather got him tickets. “I have no idea,” stated the winner when asked if his grandfather would get any of the windfall. “This year, my boyfriend and I moved into an apartment, so perhaps I’ll put some money toward a nice vacation or the mortgage. It’s a lot of money, and there’s a lot to consider.”
Despite Kist’s exhilarating moment, Latvian sensation Razma maintained his poise to win 3-1 and secure a matchup with another Dutchman, Dirk van Duijvenbode, in the second round on Sunday afternoon.
Moments after Michael van Gerwen missed the ninth dart in his attempt, Michael Smith accomplished the feat in the 2023 final, marking the first time since the best leg in the sport’s history and the fifteenth nine-dart finish in the PDC World Championship’s history.
Laura Kerby stated that Christian has made history in darts with this flawless game, but he has also contributed to an amazing £60,000 in fundraising. The Chief Executive of Prostate Cancer UK, said “One maximum at a time, we have made a huge difference for men affected by prostate cancer through this iconic tournament.”
