(The Post News)- President Cyril Ramaphosa has signed the Basic Education Laws Amendment (BELA) Act into law, marking a significant milestone in South Africa’s efforts to transform its education system. The act aims to ensure that all children have equal access to quality education, regardless of their background, language, or circumstances.
The BELA Act is designed to build an education system that is more effective, equitable, and aligned with the country’s constitution. It guarantees equal rights for every person to obtain basic education and ensures that every person receives education in their official language of choice.
President Ramaphosa emphasized that the act is vital to the transformation of South Africa’s education system and that it will help prepare children to succeed in life, regardless of their circumstances. He also instructed the Minister of Basic Education, Siviwe Gwarube, to fully implement the BELA Act, ensuring that no child is left behind.
