(The Post News)- According to a schedule released on Thursday, Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami will meet New York City FC in the first game of the 2025 Major League Soccer season. Despite leading Inter Miami to the greatest MLS record the previous season.
The Argentinean star’s team lost to Atlanta in the first round of the playoffs. Between the team’s legs of a CONCACAF Champions Cup series versus Kansas City on February 18 and 25, Miami will play their first home game against NYCFC on February 22.
Messi and his colleagues will travel to San Jose, Houston, and Minnesota from the Western Conference in addition to playing their Eastern Conference foes. On August 16, Inter Miami will host West rivals Dallas, Seattle, and the defending Major League Soccer champion Los Angeles Galaxy in a marquee match.
On February 23, the Galaxy will host MLS expansion team San Diego to kick off the 2025 season. In the league’s 30th season, San Diego is the 30th MLS club to debut. Each club will play 34 games, with an equal number of home and away games.
When DC United returns to San Jose on April 6 for a repeat of the first MLS match, the league will also honor its first 1996 campaign. In a replay of the first MLS Cup final, United will also go to the Galaxy on July 12. Austin will host the 2025 Major League Soccer All-Star Game on July 23.
The 32-team FIFA Club World Cup and the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup, which will both be played in US sites, will cause MLS to halt play from June 15–24. The Seattle Sounders and Inter Miami will play in the Club World Cup. From July 29 to August 31, MLS and Mexico’s LIGA MX teams will compete in the 2025 Leagues Cup.
