(The Post News)- Rico Lewis, a defender for Manchester City, urged his team to stick together following their sixth Premier League loss of the year to Aston Villa.
After City’s 2-1 setback at Villa Park, the reigning champions had lost nine of their previous 12 games in all competitions. In their quest for a fourth consecutive championship, Pep Guardiola’s team has already dropped twice as many league games this season as they did during the entire previous campaign.
The fact that City has kept only one clean sheet in their last ten games across all competitions reveals the core of their issues.
Lewis, 20, acknowledged that they must not allow the slump to create divisions in the dressing room. However, he expressed hope that the more seasoned players in City’s squad can help change the tide.
“We have leaders in the dressing room. Everyone listens, they can talk, and everyone agrees,” he said. “But ultimately, what matters is what we do on the field, not what is said in the locker room. That’s the problem that needs to be solved.”
Lewis emphasized that he doesn’t want to see finger-pointing or blame-shifting. “Even though things are tough right now, we must remain united.”
