Halaand and Palmer arr battling for the top goal scorer of the year. With Halaand leading with one goal.
(The Post News)– Erling Haaland’s name is typically scrawled all over any Premier League goal-related records. Meanwhile, Cole Palmer has ascended to solidify his place in the Premier League goal scoring statistics despite the Norwegian going through a difficult time, which can be linked to Manchester City’s current troubles.
The competition between the two players for the title of Premier League top scorer of the (calendar) year is still going strong with two matches remaining for the 2024 chapter to conclude. With 25 goals for Chelsea, the Englishman is getting closer to Haaland, who is only a goal ahead.
Haaland’s final 2024 opponents are Everton (15th) and Leicester (17th), while Palmer’s are Fulham (9th) and Ipswich (19th). The former Borussia Dortmund striker’s schedule appears to have a tiny advantage, at least when looking at the current standings.
However, examining the two players’ most recent performances will reveal an entirely different picture. In the last six games, the Man City number nine has only managed to score one goal, which came against Crystal Palace earlier this month. Palmer, on the other hand, has scored four goals in the same number of games. He scored once each against Southampton and Aston Villa and twice in the exciting 3–4 triumph over Tottenham.
The Wythenshawe guy appears to have a penchant of both helping and scoring goals. The Manchester City young player is really vying to win the Premier League’s award for best assist giver of the year. He is only one assist shy of Salah’s current total of 13. Additionally, Enzo Maresca’s midfielder has a greater chance of winning the honorary title if we sum up both totals because he has contributed 38 goals, compared to the Egyptian’s 35.
However, given how unpredictable this sport can be, it would be foolish to rule out both Mohamed Salah of Liverpool—with 21 goals—and Aleksander Isak of Newcastle—with 23 goals—from the fight up top, especially considering the Egyptian’s dominating play in the second half of the year.
