Makwassie Stadium after Makhadzi no-show: Sunday World
( The Post News)-The North West police have commenced a manhunt due to a malicious damage to property incident at Makwassie Stadium. The ” occurrence” took place during the early hours of Friday, December 27. This incident transpired amidst the Annual Fun Games and Music Festival. However, it quickly devolved into chaos when the headline performer—award-winning musician Makhadzi—failed to make an appearance.
Reports suggest that frustrated festival-goers engaged in a rampage that resulted in the destruction of the stage and equipment. With damages estimated to be worth R3 million. Colonel Adéle Myburgh, Police spokesperson, confirmed the extent of the damages. She further notes that they are still investigating. However, they have yet to arrest anyone.
Videos circulating on social media depict the stage and equipment engulfed in flames. Allegedly, in an attempt to mitigate the situation, the festival organizers introduced a performer who bore a resemblance to Makhadzi. But this tactic backfired and caused chaos. Attendees began to hurl bottles and stones, leading to an escalation of chaos.
Makhadzi’s management team attributed the singer’s absence to the failure of the organizers to meet their payment obligations. In a statement, the team elaborated on the agreement with the festival’s promoter, Ismael. He consented to a performance fee of R180,000. They issued the contract on November 19. A 50% deposit was expected before any promotional activities could commence. The contract requires a full payment 14 days before any event takes place. The deposit was paid, however the remaining balance was not settled within the designated time frame. Makhadzi’s team paid an additional R 3,000 for a promotional video.
“We regret that we could not inform our artist or her traveling team of the event because payments were not confirmed in accordance with the contract,” the statement elucidated. Makhadzi expressed her sincere apologies to her fans in Makwassie, stating, “We sincerely apologize to our dedicated fans in Makwassie. We look forward to seeing you soon!”
