(The Post News)– The DHL Stormers thrilled a crowd of 52,000 at DHL Stadium on Saturday with a dramatic 24-20 win over the Hollywoodbets Sharks in the Vodacom United Rugby Championship.
The game was close from start to finish, with the Sharks leading 10-5 at halftime. It wasn’t the smoothest match, with many stops for scrums due to handling errors. The Sharks did better at throwing and catching during line outs, giving them more chances to attack.
The Sharks started strong, scoring first through a penalty kick (similar to a free kick in football). The Stormers answered quickly with Seabelo Senatla’s try after a clever kick from teammate Warrick Gelant. However, both teams struggled with their kicking accuracy, missing several opportunities to add points.
The Sharks scored again with a well-executed team play, putting Yaw Penxe over the try line. Meanwhile, the Stormers kept fighting but couldn’t make the most of their chances near the Sharks’ goal, even when the Sharks were temporarily down a player.
In the second half, the Stormers stepped up. Deon Fourie scored from a group push called a maul, and later Manie Libbok added another try. But the Sharks weren’t done, as brothers Jordan and Jaden Hendrikse teamed up for a try that put the Sharks ahead with just five minutes left.
It looked like the Sharks might hold on to win, but the Stormers had the final say. With time running out, Jean-Luc du Plessis scored the winning try after a powerful push from his team. Libbok’s successful kick sealed the game, leaving the Sharks no time to recover. The Sharks played well but couldn’t stop the Stormers’ late surge. For the home fans, it was an exciting finish and a crucial win for the Stormers.
