(The Post News)– The England national football team announced Thomas Tuchel as their national squad head coach in October, 2024, and he was expected to begin his duties on January 1, 2025, as a permanent replacement of Gareth Southgate.
On the first Saturday, Tuchel and his assistant Anthony Barry attended their first scouting game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. The two then proceeded to the American Express Community Stadium for Brighton and Hove versus Arsenal.
They will be present in more Premier League matches as they begin to prepare for England’s World Cup qualifying campaign. In an introductory series, the 51-year-old and his coaching staff will visit England’s training facility at St George’s Park for the first time next week to meet with staff members.
Tuchel’s England Under-21 team will meet with Lee Carsley, who served as the senior team’s interim manager during the Nations League campaign earlier this season. The Football Association confirmed on Thursday that Henrique Hilario, who has been in the same position at Chelsea since 2016, would be Tuchel’s goalkeeping coach.
Meanwhile, Nicolas Mayer, who previously collaborated with Tuchel at Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, will serve as his performance coach. Analyst James Melbourne is also a member of the Germans’ backroom crew. Tuchel’s first games as manager will be the World Cup qualifiers against Latvia on March 24 and Albania on March 21 at Wembley.
In Group K, England will also face Andorra and Serbia. Tuchel is faced with the responsibility of leading England to their first major trophy since the 1966 World Cup after Southgate led the team twice to runners-up at the European Championship, including a final defeat to Spain in July.
