(The Post News)- Victims of the record-breaking Los Angeles wildfires, are using a California law to seek compensation from their power utility. They are alleging the equipment sparked the blaze, regardless of whether the company was negligent.
Eaton fire victims have filed several lawsuits during the course of the week. Furthermore, the lawsuits allege that the company’s high-voltage transmission towers were the cause of the fire. Dangerous high winds ans lower humidity played a massive role.
While the deadly wildfires continue to ravage through Los Angeles, the attorneys representing the victims affected, head to court. Several lawsuits are being made, alleging negligence by at least two public utilities in Southern California.
Southern California Edison faces a lawsuit alleging it failed to maintain power lines. Additionally, sparking the 14,000-acre Eaton fire that ravaged Altadena and surrounding communities.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) investigates the Eaton and Palisades wildfires. However, a cause has not been determined yet, fueling speculation.
Social media accounts have been filled with videos and alleged witness accounts that seem to show flames breaking out under transmission power lines in Eaton Canyon. These incidents has sparked questions about whether the power company is responsible for the fire.
So far, officials have been circumspect and careful, and they don’t have solid answers as of yet, but they will as soon as they can, given the complex and often months-long origin and cause investigations that are only just beginning now.
According to officials, as of Wednesday, the fires across the LA area have killed about 25 people and have destroyed more than 12,000 structures and charred more than 60 square miles, which is the largest by far. The Palisades and Eaton wildfires are continuing to burn out.
