The win not only showcased his resilience but also solidified his dominance on hard courts.
Alcaraz, the 21-year-old Spanish sensation, came out strong and took the first set. Alcaraz used key errors from Djokovic to his advantage. However, the match took a turn in the second set, with Djokovic’s experience and composure shining through. Despite battling a left leg injury, Djokovic pushed through the pain, drawing on his tactical brilliance and mental strength.
Djokovic praised his opponent, saying, “Carlos is a phenomenal player, and I respect everything he’s achieved so far. Today’s match felt like a final, to be honest. It was one of the most intense matches I’ve played on any court.”
The victory also marked a milestone for Djokovic. He is the second player in the Open Era to reach 50 singles semifinals, joining Chris Evert. With his sights set on an 11th Australian Open title, Djokovic’s next challenge comes in the form of Alexander Zverev. Zverev also made it through to the semi-finals with a win over Tommy Paul.
Zverev’s win was a gritty. He battled through two tight tiebreaks to take the first two sets before eventually closing the match 7-6 (7-1), 7-6 (7-0), 2-6, 6-1. Zverev, who is aiming for his first Grand Slam title, will now face Djokovic in what promises to be an exciting semifinal clash.
Both players have shown they’re in top form, and it’s shaping up to be another thrilling chapter in the Australian Open.
