(The Post News)– The German FA (DFB) has declared that Julian Nagelsmann extended his contract as the club’s coach until the end of Euro 2028. According to Nagelsmann, German hosting Euro 2024 made him stay, anticipating the 2026 World Cup and Euros two years later.
“It is not yet over, but we are headed in the right direction. We wish to keep evolving. In a statement, the 37-year-old stated, “We want to win titles.” During the DFB’s 125th anniversary celebrations in Leipzig on Friday, Nagelsmann signed the extension. In 2023, the former coach of RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich took over, initially temporarily for Euro 2024.
After a challenging time for the four-time World Cup winners, Nagelsmann took over as Germany’s second youngest head coach. England defeated Germany in the round of 16 of Euro 2020, and Germany was eliminated in the group stages of the World Cups in 2018 and 2022.
Following the World Cup in Qatar, Hansi Flick became the first coach in the history of the national team to be fired. When Nagelsmann took over Hoffenheim at the age of 28 in 2016, he became the youngest coach in Bundesliga history. Three years later, he moved to RB Leipzig. After that, he joined Bayern Munich, where he won the Bundesliga in 2021–2022, until his unexpected dismissal in March 2023. At Euro 2024, Germany appeared to be on the rise under Nagelsmann, winning their group before falling to eventual champions Spain in extra time in the quarterfinals.
They want the tournament to be a success, Nagelsmann said, but he had no idea at the time how much the German national team meant to the country and how many hearts and souls it touched. Germany will play Italy in a two-leg quarterfinal in March after making it to the knockout stage of the Nations League for the first time.
Rumours that the highly sought-after coach might return to club football following the 2026 World Cup have been dispelled by Nagelsmann’s extension. Additionally, it means that after leaving Liverpool last year, Jurgen Klopp will have to wait for the position he has been connected to for a long time. Nagelsmann’s wish to remain was a “significant signal” for the future of the game in Germany, according to DFB president Bernd Neuendorf.
