(The Post News)– Orlando Pirates has confirmed that Gilberto, an Angolan international, will spend the rest of the season on loan at Petro de Luanda. With a lot of fan fervor, Gilberto was originally signed from the Angolan team and joined the Pirates during the off-season.
The 23-year-old has had difficulty establishing himself as a regular starter at Pirates, despite having helped his nation go to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals in Ivory Coast. In all competitions, he has made 12 appearances.
“The Angolan international Gilberto has agreed to be loaned to Petro de Luanda by the Orlando Pirates for the rest of the season,” the team said in a statement. “After a successful medical, Gilberto will return to his hometown club as a result of the move,” continued the statement. In Pirates’ 2-1 CAF Champions League victory over Al Ahly last weekend, Gilberto made his final appearance as a substitute.
With players like Monnapule Saleng, Mohau Nkota, and Relebohile Mofokeng currently ahead of Gilberto in the hierarchy under coach Jose Riveiro, competition for spots in the Pirates attack has been intense.
