(The Post News)– The South Africa U19 Women’s cricket team is set to take on Ireland and the USA in the Super Six stage of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, currently being held in Malaysia.
Their first encounter will be against Ireland on Saturday, 25 January, at 8:30 am SAST, followed by a clash with the USA on Tuesday, 28 January, at 4:30 am SAST. Both matches are scheduled to take place at the Borneo Cricket Ground in Sarawak. This follows their impressive group-stage performance, where the Junior Proteas emerged unbeaten, topping the Group C log. With their current form, they’re poised to make a strong push in this next stage.
Head coach Dinesha Devnarain commended the team’s consistency throughout the tournament, stressing the need to keep improving and stay adaptable as the competition intensifies. “We’ve played against Ireland and the USA in our preparations, but the stakes and conditions are different now,” Devnarain said. “Our priority is to focus on the areas we can control and to approach every game with fresh intent. While the momentum we’ve built is important, it’s our execution in these matches that will make the difference.”
Devnarain also urged South Africans to support the team, emphasising the players’ broader mission to inspire the nation. “This squad isn’t just playing to win but to show young boys and girls in South Africa what’s possible. The encouragement we’ve received from back home has been incredible, and it drives us forward. Your belief and support mean everything, and with that, we’re confident we can rise to the challenge,” she added.
The Super Six stage promises intense action as the Junior Proteas aim to secure a semi-final spot and continue their World Cup journey.
